Half of Aging Holocaust Survivors Are afflicted by PTSD

Although almost 70 years have passed, many Holocaust survivors still are afflicted by the trauma they experienced during Wwii. In commemoration of Yom HaShoah, Healthcare Brands' online publication, Anxiety.org, has published an article that explores the struggle that continues for Holocaust survivors as they simply battle Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD). Experts think that 46-55% of Holocaust survivors suffer the pain of PTSD understanding that people who have also been able to their battle to conceal their symptoms of trauma thus far are at risk for retraumatization within their twilight years.



In this article, author and PTSD expert, Michele Rosenthal, interviews experts and leaders inside the Jewish community give enlightening perspectives regarding the best approach some survivors have developed meaningful lives beyond their trauma. During these survivors, experts look for a common thread of resiliency; through their strength in community, connection, and purpose, they choose daily to shift beyond their trauma - to surpass their victimhood and emerge as survivors.
